A quick-reference guide to programs, events, and resources at Rose Haggar Elementary.

PTA PROGRAMS & INITIATIVES

After-School Enrichment Programs	A variety of enrichment programs organized by the PTA and provided by outside companies. Offerings vary by semester and school year and have included coding, drama, yoga, sports, chess, and more. Sign-up information is shared at the beginning of each semester.
Book Fair	The Book Fair comes to Rose Haggar once a year, offering books and other items for sale. It is organized by the PTA and staffed by parent volunteers. All funds raised go directly to support our RMH Library and the PTA.
Booster	The Boosterthon fundraiser is a high-energy school fitness program where students gather pledges from family and friends. It culminates in a celebratory event like a fun run or dance-a-thon to raise money for the PTA and school.
Captains	A PTA program in which family members volunteer time at school to help with carpool, sit in for classes, assist with recess and PE, etc. Volunteers must sign up in advance and have a completed VOLY application.
Class Parties	Parties are held in students’ classrooms before Winter Break, for Valentine’s Day (i.e., Friendship parties), and before Summer Break. The parties are organized by the PTA, but all family members are welcome to attend.
Dine & Donate	Social and fundraising events held at local restaurants throughout the year, organized by the PTA. A percentage of sales on these nights is donated back to the RMH PTA. Everyone is welcome!
Fall Festival	Our annual fall celebration! The Fall Festival is a free community carnival event open to all Haggar families. It features games, activities, food, and fun for all ages.
Grade-Level Coordinators	PTA volunteers who organize and manage class parties, bulletin board updates, and other activities for each grade.
Haggar Headlines	The official RMH PTA newsletter, packed with information about all things Rose Haggar.
Mariner Merchant Fleet	A fundraising and partnership program where local businesses join the Mariner Merchant Fleet and support the PTA with monetary or in-kind donations. MMF supporters are recognized in the Haggar Headlines and on the school marquee.
PTA Auction	The PTA's largest fundraiser of the year, held each spring as an online silent auction. The auction features items and experiences donated by local businesses and families. Funds raised support enrichment programs, school events, and teacher appreciation.
Reflections Art Contest	The Texas PTA Reflections program is a student art recognition program that focuses on creative expression, featuring categories like visual arts and film production.
Spirit Wear	Rose Haggar T-shirts, hats, and other Mariner apparel. Fridays are Spirit Days — students are encouraged to wear their Haggar gear to show their school pride. Spirit wear is available for purchase through the PTA.
Talent Show	The RMH Talent Show is held every year in February by the PTA and coordinated by Mr. Overton. All Haggar students are welcome to participate in singing, dancing, or other forms of performing.
Yearbook	Throughout the year, the PTA takes photos of events and school activities and compiles them into a yearbook. (Parents must give permission for students’ photos to be included.) Yearbooks go on sale in the spring.

SCHOOL PROGRAMS & INITIATIVES

Character Trait Parades	A monthly event in which students who are given a character trait award, such as Perseverance or Honesty, walk through the school hallway for other students and staff to cheer them on. Families of the students with awards may come to watch.
Field Day	An annual school-wide event held during a school day where the RMH coaching staff plan fun, competitive outdoor games for students. Games are led by parent volunteers. Students in each grade wear a special color-coordinated T-shirt.
Fifth Grade Adventure Camp	Outdoor School is a three-day, two-night program offered to all fifth-grade students in Plano ISD. The principal, fifth-grade teachers, parent volunteers, and students travel by school bus to Collin County Adventure Camp near Westminster, Texas. Classes are held outdoors and students engage in hands-on science and social studies activities.
Lip Dub	At the end of every school year, a Lip Dub video is made that features every student at RMH! Kids dance, sing, cheer, and show their excitement for the summer!
Lunch Visitors	Beginning in early fall, family members may eat lunch with their students at designated tables outside the lunchroom. Family members can bring food for their child, or the student can eat the school lunch. Classmates or friends must stay in the lunchroom.
Manny the Manatee	Rose Haggar’s mascot, a friendly manatee! Rose Haggar students are known as Haggar Mariners.
Mariner Dollars	A school-wide positive behavior reward system. Teachers and staff give Mariner Dollars to students who demonstrate good behavior, kindness, and school values. Students can use their Mariner Dollars at the Mariner Shop.
Music Programs	Every student participates in at least one music program per year, directed by Mr. Overton. Past productions have included Bugz, The Glow Show, The Nutcracker, and more. These performances are a beloved highlight of the school year for students and families alike.
PASAR	PISD's After School Activity and Recreation program provides on-campus after-school care for students in grades K–5. PASAR is located on elementary campuses and provides a safe, supervised environment for students until parents are able to pick them up. Contact the front office for enrollment information.
Pre-K	The Plano ISD Pre-K program provides a language- and literacy-enriched environment where children 4 years and older have hands-on opportunities for learning before they begin kindergarten. Rose Haggar is a participating campus.
Red Ribbon Week	An annual drug, alcohol, and violence prevention awareness campaign observed each October. Each day of the week, students are invited to wear a certain color or dress in costume to show their commitment to a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. PTA supports Red Ribbon Week.
Safety Patrol	A student leadership program open to 4th and 5th grade students. Safety Patrol members help manage carpool traffic each morning and afternoon, assisting students in safely entering and exiting vehicles. Safety Patrol is overseen by school staff and supported by Student Council.
Singing Sailors	Rose Haggar's choir program, open to students in 4th and 5th grade and directed by Mr. Overton. The Singing Sailors perform several times throughout the year and participate in a more in-depth musical production each spring. Auditions or sign-ups are announced at the beginning of the school year.
Skyward	The online portal used by Plano ISD families to complete registration forms, review student grades, check attendance, update contact information, and more.
Snack Shack	Student Council sells snacks and candy on certain Fridays after school as a fundraiser.
Student Council	A student leadership organization open to 4th and 5th grade students, directed by Mr. Overton. Student Council members assist with Safety Patrol, school events, and campus initiatives. They serve as representatives of the student body and help build school spirit and community.
VOLY	VOLY is the online volunteer management system used by PISD. It allows community members, parents, and mentors to register, complete annual background checks, watch required orientations, and sign up for school volunteer opportunities.
Winter Wonderland	A Student Council event held in December where students come with their classmates to a winter-themed room to drink hot chocolate and enjoy snacks.

ACADEMICS

Dyslexia Services	Plano ISD provides services for all students identified with dyslexia, as required by Texas law. Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that affects word recognition, spelling, and decoding. If you have concerns about your child's reading development, speak with your child's teacher.
Intervention / MTSS	Rose Haggar uses a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to identify and help students who may need additional academic support. Through regular assessment data, teachers and specialists identify students who could benefit from targeted small-group instruction or more intensive one-on-one support. Intervention is not a label — it is a proactive way to help every student stay on track. Rose Haggar has certified tutors and instructional coaches on campus to support this work daily.
MAP Testing	MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) is a computerized adaptive test given three times per year — fall, winter, and spring. It measures student growth in reading and math over time. Results help teachers understand where each student is and how much they are growing. MAP is not a pass/fail test; it adjusts in difficulty based on each student's answers. Students in K–2 take the Reading and Math tests, and students in 3–5 take the Reading, Math, Language, and Science tests.
Math Rocks	Math Rocks is a Plano ISD math enrichment program for students in grades 4–8 who demonstrate high achievement and aptitude in mathematics, as identified through MAP and CogAT scores. The Math Rocks class replaces the student's regular math class with a rich, unique curriculum that goes well beyond grade-level standards. There is no application — students are identified and invited by the Academic Services department.
PACE	Plano Academic and Creative Education is the cornerstone of Plano ISD's gifted and talented education program, serving students in kindergarten through graduation. Students are identified through a referral and assessment process.
Section 504	Section 504 is a federal civil rights law that ensures students with disabilities have equal access to education. Unlike Special Education, 504 plans provide accommodations in the general education classroom — such as extended time on tests, preferential seating, or assistive technology. There is a 504 coordinator on every Plano ISD campus.
Special Education	Plano ISD provides special education services for students with disabilities who need specially designed instruction. Services are provided in the least restrictive environment, with the goal of keeping students in the general education classroom as much as possible. Eligibility is determined through a Full Individual Evaluation and an ARD committee process.
Specials	Specials refers to Art, Music, and PE classes that students attend on a rotating basis throughout the week.
State Testing (STAAR)	The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) is the state's standardized testing program. Students in grades 3–5 are tested in reading and math each spring. Students in grade 5 are also tested in science. STAAR results are used to measure school and student performance and contribute to the school's annual TEA accountability rating.
Title I	Title I is a federally-funded program providing supplemental educational support, funding extra staff and small-group instruction, and establishing family engagement guidelines for schools with high percentages of low-income students.
